For detailed design of pipeline systems we draw on our considerable experience from previous projects, and we use commercially available software, together with our key strength – our in-house software and design procedures. For pipeline design we have developed special expertise in solving design problems and ensuring the pipeline satisfies the latest design codes. We can swiftly and accurately perform pipeline calculations for steady and transient hydraulic flow analysis (liquid, gas and multiphase fluids), thermal analyses and temperature loss or gain calculations, expansion movement of pipelines, stress analysis of pipelines and risers, stability calculations, cathodic protection calculations plus much more.

We perform all aspects of detailed design for submarine pipelines, including subsea connections such as PLEMs and WYEs. For some projects our clients are the owners of the pipelines, for others we work for the EPC contractor. We analyse and design subsea pipelines from feasibility studies through detailed design and provide construction supervision and support. Specific design topics for submarine pipelines include cathodic protection design (sacrificial anodes), pipeline spanning, lateral buckling and bottom roughness analysis, temperature profiles and insulation, on-bottom stability, pipeline protection and pipelay analysis. OGI has developed specific expertise in the design of pipeline protection systems. We have designed the trench and armour rock required to protect the pipeline from dropped and dragged anchors. For subsea structures we design the piping, the steel structure and the pile foundations.
